Louisiana Parent Training
and Information Center
Our Philosophy
Louisiana Parent Training and Information Center (LaPTIC):
Believes that parents have unique information about the development, nature, and needs of their children, and advocates that parents be recognized as partners in the planning and implementing of their children's education.
Is committed to providing training to parents, professionals, and students with disabilities.
Supports the inclusion of people with disabilities in the community, enjoying the same early childhood, educational and employment opportunities and experiences as their peers without disabilities.
Is committed to empowering parents and people with disabilities so that they can advocate for themselves.
Our History
In 1986, Project PROMPT was first funded by a grant from the United States Department of Education.
In 1991, the statewide Families Helping Families Resource Network was established. Nine regional, private, nonprofit, parent-directed organizations were created to provide information and referral, education and training, and one-to-one support for families of persons with disabilities.
On July 1, 2007 the Families Helping Families Resource Network opened their tenth center in New Orleans called Families Helping Families of Southeast LA. The office formerly known as Families Helping Families of Greater New Orleans was later renamed to Families Helping Families of Jefferson. To learn more about Families Helping Families of Jefferson, visit their website at www.fhfjefferson.org.
In 2008 Project PROMPT's name was changed to Louisiana Parent Training and Information Center .
